Yesterday saw the start of the 2012-13 football season. Well, the start of the season for me, anyway. I drove to Maidstone in Kent to shoot the Brighton & Hove Albion pre-season friendly game at Maidstone United’s new Gallagher Stadium. The club has waited 24 years for their new ground, and yesterday’s game was the first in their new home.
The rain tried hard to dampen things; a pre-match live band in the car park had to stop playing when it became torrential, leaving fans sheltering under canopies and trees, and the club opened the turnstiles early to let fans shelter under cover inside the ground.
The stadium was officially opened by Brighton and Hove Albion Manager Gus Poyet who performed the ceremonial kick-off at the start of the match.
I got absolutely drenched. My trousers became soaked, they dried off and got soaked again in the course of the game, but I’m back shooting football, and I love it!
The clubs website has posted a gallery of my photos.
