The Season Starts

Yesterday saw the start of the 2012-13 football season.  Well, the start of the season for me, anyway.  I drove to Maidstone in Kent to shoot the Brighton & Hove Albion pre-season friendly game at Maidstone United’s new Gallagher Stadium.  The club has waited 24 years for their new ground, and yesterday’s game was the first in their new home.

The rain tried hard to dampen things; a pre-match live band in the car park had to stop playing when it became torrential, leaving fans sheltering under canopies and trees, and the club opened the turnstiles early to let fans shelter under cover inside the ground.

The stadium was officially opened by Brighton and Hove Albion Manager Gus Poyet who performed the ceremonial kick-off at the start of the match.

I got absolutely drenched. My trousers became soaked, they dried off and got soaked again in the course of the game, but I’m back shooting football, and I love it!

The clubs website has posted a gallery of my photos.

An Eventful Weekend

This weekend Geoff Penn Photography worked at two sports events, – football and ice-skating – taking photographs and then printing them for customers.

On Saturday, both Linda and I were at the Lewes Football Club for their annual Open Day. The day gave the club’s supporters an opportunity to get close to the team.  I was making photographs of fans with their favourite player, and after we printed and mounted the image, the players signed the photo for the fan to take home.  The players’ Mums also bought mounted images of their sons too.

Three players strike a pose, so that their Mums could buy the photo.

Ice Skating

On Sunday, I was a part of the four-man StudioIV crew taking photographs and video of the 2012 Ice Skating Tournament at the Bracknell Ice Rink. The event comprised a full day’s skating, starting at 10:30 am and finishing around 6:00 pm, with about 200 skaters taking part.

The Overall Winners

A great weekend was had by all!

What to do if you find your photographs have been stolen.

This is one of my more popular photographs. Especially with golf clubs who have stolen it for their own use!

Your copyright, what you are entitled to claim from an infringer, and how to assemble and present a claim, are all discussed in detail here on his blog.
I have already started chasing infringers – and with some success!

Here are the players from the Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s FC team, who won trophies at the club’s Annual Awards Dinner held at the American Express Community Stadium.

The trophies were presented by BHAFC defender Marcos Painter (who’s kit is sponsored by Geoff Penn Photos!) at the Black Tie event.  Before the awards were presented, the event was addressed by BHA Director Robert Comer, who stated the Board’s desire  and commitment to see the team become a Women’s Super League Team in the next couple of years.

The trophy winners, (L-R) Kelly McCullock, Lucy Somes, Levi Chambers-Cook, Kim Stenning, Kirsty Barton, Paige Walder and Faye Rabson, all paid tribute to their fellow team members, and to the club’s coaching staff who have all played a big part in their success.

On a Matchday….

I think that I am so lucky to be able to do the job that I do, working as one of the Club Photographers for the Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.

Here’s a few photos which provide a glimpse of some of what I get up to on a matchday at the American Express Community Stadium.
